San Rafael Royal Mining Hospital

The San Rafael Mining Hospital is a splendid building constructed in the year 1755. It entered into service as a hospital in 1774,and has operated to this end until the year 1975, when it entered into a semi-abandoned state until its renovation between the years 2002 and 2003.

Currently, it houses the Historical Almadén Mines Archive, with more than 100,000 records, already catalogued, and an extensive collection of blueprints. All of these documentation collections date from the 18th century to our time.

Three rooms can be visited in this building: one explains the history of the building as a hospital, another explains mercury's metallurgy and its evolution, and the third is for the population of Almadén and the region; the life and customs of our people.
